Devil's Tongue Pepper

About Devil's Tongue Pepper

The Devil's Tongue Pepper is a medium-to-hot chili pepper originating from the Netherlands, where it was developed by the Jolivette family, a respected Dutch seed company.

The Devil's Tongue Pepper typically grows to 1-2 inches in length and is slightly curved, giving it the look of a devil's tongue. Its mild-to-hot heat has been measured between 15,000 to 30,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU). It has smooth fruit walls, and mature pepper fruits are mostly orange or yellow in color.

When growing the Devil's Tongue Pepper, direct sunlight is preferred for a good harvest. This pepper does best in climates with consistent warm weather, such as in the south or southwest of the United States. The pepper can grown in a pot, but it should be an average-sized container, and fertilizing every so often more is recommended for maximum yield.

The Devil's Tongue Pepper is of the Capsicum annuum species and Solanaceae genus. The pepper has a flavor far from the taste of its name. It has sweet, tangy, and only slightly smoky flavors, making it great for adding to sauces and salsas. It can be used for roasting, barbecueing, cooking and frying.

Even though Devil's Tongue peppers have quite a bit of spiciness, some people find that the taste of the pepper is slightly more enjoyable than other chili peppers. It has even become popular in recent years to add the Devil's Tongue pepper to hamburgers, beef, salads and other dishes.
