About This Pepper
Tabasco Peppers are small, tapered peppers famous for being sole ingredient (besides vinegar and salt) in Tabasco® Brand Hot Sauce. Rating 30,000-50,000 SHU, these peppers pack significant heat with sharp, tangy flavor profile. Native to Tabasco, Mexico, but now famously grown on Avery Island, Louisiana, where they’re aged in oak barrels for iconic sauce. The peppers start yellow-green and ripen through orange to bright red. Plants are taller than most C. annuum varieties and very productive. The thin-skinned peppers are perfect for sauce-making but can also be pickled or used fresh.
