About This Pepper
Rocoto (also called Manzano or Locoto) is unique C. pubescens pepper from Andean regions. Rating 30,000-100,000 SHU, it looks deceptively mild but packs serious heat. The flavor is distinctly apple-like or fruity before heat hits. Black seeds distinguish it from all other peppers (most have tan/white seeds). Essential in Peruvian rocoto relleno (stuffed rocoto). The plants are unusual – they prefer cool climates unlike most peppers. Can grow quite large. Thick-walled and meaty. A completely unique pepper.
